Changing Lives is a national, registered charity which provides specialist support for thousands of vulnerable people and their families, every month.
Through our pioneering and innovative work we support people to make positive, lasting changes in their lives.
The service we deliver in York is based on a highly effective model which Changing Lives has pioneered and has been running in the North East since 2009.
Oaktrees York, is an abstinence-based day treatment centre for men and women who want to be free from drugs and alcohol. Our aim is to help people to stop the cycle of addiction. We run a 12-week programme at our centre in Bowes Morrell House in York. Oaktrees York is not residential, we provide a full-time treatment programme during weekdays.
The 12 week self-help programme empowers people to take responsibility for their recovery. It includes:
– One to one counselling
– Group therapy
– Workshops for developing life skills and techniques to prevent relapse
– Education and information on addiction recovery and health Apromotion
– Therapeutic reading and writing exercises
– Working with others engaged in the same process
– Encouragement to use mutual aid groups.
Clients who successfully complete the programme celebrate with their peers in a graduation ceremony to which family and friends are invited.
Graduates of the programme are supported by the staff team for up to one year after completing the full time 12-week programme and are also supported to access services and activities once the full time part of their treatment is complete to aid their continuing recovery.
